      Presentation: What is the Real Cost of Ransomware?


      Speaker: Emilee Tellez, Senior Systems Engineer

      Topic:
      This discussion is an agnostic approach and look at how the industry has had to adapt to the question of not IF but WHEN you are a victim of ransomware. Discussions of different customers journeys that were impacted by various types, and what they did that saved their data and least amount of downtime for the business. We will also discuss some of the unknowns or impacts of cybersecurity insurance and what the future holds when it comes to having insurance coverage for ransomware attacks.


      Bio: Emilee Tellez is a senior systems engineer for Veeam Software. She has ten years of IT experience with over seven years working directly for Veeam. Based in Mesa, AZ, she supports both commercial and public sector customers in the desert region, spanning from New Mexico to Hawaii. In her role, she helps customers work on their data protection and disaster recovery strategies for the ever-changing modern datacenter. She is a graduate of Arizona State University and holds certifications in AWS, VMware and Veeam.

Hosted by the Board of Directors, we'll take a look at the Top Ten Biggest Data Breaches of 2022, and possibly some of the recent ones of 2023 that might be pertinent to Hawaii. We also welcome any feedback on some of the top cybersecurity issues and trends that are starting to emerge in 2023. Come join us for this discussion.       Bio: Dan Gregory serves as the VP of Solutions Architecture for Converge Cybersecurity. He has over 22 years of experience developing cybersecurity solutions for organizations to address regulatory compliance mandates, assessments, policy review and development, and internal process audits. His cybersecurity team leads efforts in deploying solution-based integrations designed to protect clients' critical infrastructure, data, brand confidence, and reputation. Dan is a Certified Information Systems Manager (CISM) with CISO experience.

      Speaker:  Eric Escobar, Wireless Adversarial Lead, Secureworks


      Topic: Do you wonder how a hacker thinks? Is your organization a soft target? This talk will flip the script and show you how a threat actor approaches breaching the perimeter, persisting access, and evading detection.

       

      Bio: Eric is an elite pentester. His team consecutively won First Place at DEF CON Hacking Competition 23, 24, and 25's Wireless CTF, earning a Black Badge. He was forcibly retired from competing in the Wireless CTF and now creates challenges. He has successfully compromised companies from nearly all sectors of business; testing physical, human, network and wireless security.

      Bio: Dean is the Channel Manager covering Hawaii for APC by Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management and the world's most sustainable company. With a combined background in sales and leadership he brings a consultative approach to his partnerships, focusing on educating and empowering companies to better utilize battery back-up, datacenter, cooling, software, and lifecycle management - all while doing things the green way. Outside of work, Dean is a long tenured high school basketball coach, local men's league team player, and avid strength trainer. He lives in Irvine, California with his wife who dances hula and recently competed with her hālau at the Merrie Monarch Festival!

SA Storm is assigned to the FBI Honolulu Division's Cyber Squad as part of the Computer Analysis Response Team.

      Speaker: Maryssa Shigesato, Data Analyst. Data Analyst Shigesato has been with the FBI for two and a half years assisting with both cyber and non-cyber criminal and national security cases. She is assigned to the FBI Honolulu Division's Cyber Squad. DA Shigesato is currently a PhD candidate in epidemiology at UH-Manoa.
